PRINTING FROM IPAD

Printing from iPad is possible in a few different ways. The one that Apple offers is AirPrint, which only works with certain AirPrint-compatible HP printers. There’s also a mod for printing from any computer in your network, and third-party apps.

AirPrint, Apple’s program, allows you to print e-mails, web pages, documents, and photos easily from your iPad. With this program, you don’t have to download any software, install drivers, or connect cables. Printing is wireless and done through your Wi-Fi network by detecting AirPrint compatible printers. It is done in the background, so you can continue doing other things with your iPad while printing your documents.

If you don’t have an AirPrint-compatible printer, you can use this mod. Make sure you have the most recent version of iTunes and latest iOS on your iPad (this also works with iPhone or iPod Touch).

1. Copy the AirPrint Hackivator (here: http://netputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/AirPrintHacktivator-v1.7.1.zip) software into your applications folder, then start the AirPrint app.
2. Switch “On”
3. Enter administrator password
4. Print & Fax will open in Settings, and you’ll be able to add the printer here

Third-party applications for printing from iPad range from paid to free. Paid apps include PrintCentral (5.5 MB for $9.99) and Print n Share (8.6 MB for $8.99). These allow you to print directly from most Wi-Fi or shared printers. They’re best and most reliable, since
most of the free or cheaper apps will only print from a certain make of printer or only support one file format (eg., photos).
